Get to know your framer...
Rose Folks has been a custom picture framer for over 30 years. She started out as a "backyard" picture/craftsperson but soon discovered her greatest creativity comes from interacting with people. She opened Across The Tracks Framing in downtown Burlington, NC twenty-six years ago and enjoys a loyal following of clients.
"I believe custom framing is an art in itself. You're developing a design to fit personality of your client and their decor. The best look for the finished project can only be created with a clear understanding of the client's style, the piece's location and any space restrictions. Armed with this kind of information, you can customize from the art out, remembering the rule to always keep the integrity of the art. The eye should always go directly to the art, not the framing."
"I love the process of custom framing. It's such a personal experience working with a client and creating and delivering a finished piece Many times when you really nail it, you bring out the piece and unwrap it and the customer tears up. It can be an extremely emotional experience, and for me, that's very rewarding."
In addition to regular custom framing, we specialize in memorabilia shadowbox framing that highlights a person's life or memory. Arranging items that mean something to a client in a personal way not only preserves them, but makes a functional one-of-a-kind shadowbox that is pleasing to the eye.
"We encourage creative design within our business instead of competing with the framers down the street over price and turnaround time. We're different. We create new designs using fabric and textured matting. Instead of the standard 3" mat, we may use a much larger mat. Sometimes we float the art or create a deckled edge. We're always trying new styles and techniques. We give ourselves permission to let our talent and creativity show."
One of her shop's unique offerings is a customer guarantee. "If they don't like it, we redo it until they are completely satisfied. Everything that goes out the door needs to be done to perfection. We want our clients to pass by their art and love it and associate it with Across The Tracks Framing and a positive experience. In the end, we measure our success by the number of clients that return. "You dream it, we create it!"
We are located at 238 E Market Street in the middle of the Coleman Roofing building near the Amtrak Station in downtown Burlington. We are a little bit out-of-the-way but it's worth the trip. There's plenty of parking available. If needed, a handicap ramp is on the left of the building.
Custom Picture Framing: With a large selection of frame mouldings and mats. we work to create the design that is perfect for you and your space. Following our unique design guidelines, our objective is to give you beautiful framing and matting that compliments your artwork or item, without calling attention to the framing itself. In framing, what you don't see is just as important as what you do see, so we are committed to giving you the greatest value in every part of the framing design. We can frame anything and we are up to the challenge....family photos, sports memorabilia, kid's art, ticket stubs, needle art and much, much more. We specialize in one-of-a-kind memorabilia shadowboxes.
Shrinkwrapping: Shrinkwrapping is the process of covering a product with clear plastic that shrinks when heated to fit tightly around the shape of the product. Shrinkwrapping, or shrinkwrap, is also the term used for the plastic used in this process. We offer this service to clients that want to protect items such as prints, tapes, cds, etc. It can also be used to shrinkwrap gift baskets.
Lamination: A laminate is a material constructed by uniting two or morelayers of material together. The process of creating a laminate is lamination, which in common terms refers to the placing of something between layers of plastic and sealing them with heat and/or pressure, usually with an adhesive. We offer thin mount laminate services.
Exhibitex: This is the unique lamination process that protects while allowing the surface to be textured. Photographs, posters, or grapics can be customized with a texture like sand, linen, wood, the canvas look and more. This process also eliminates the need for glass on your framed items.
Restoration: We clean and repair damaged frames, replace broken glass, old discolored mats, damaged prints, etc.
Stretched Canvas: We stretch your canvas onto specially designed stretcher bars (frames) and professionally finish with backs and hanging wire ready for you to hang.
Print Mounting: Various types of board may be used for mounting, yet foamboard is one of the most widely used substrates. It is preferred because it is lightweight, smooth, easy to cut, and has the right degree of porosity. It is available in several forms and thicknesses.
Mats: We offer a large selection of regular and acid-free matboard from Crescent and Bainbridge. Quantity mat cutting services are available at discounted prices.
Prints: We carry open and limited edition prints, poster, etc. If you are looking for a particular print, we can help you locate it.
Specialty Cuts: We do custom matting including french mats, v-grooves, ovals, circles, hand-cut, pen lines, etc. Bring your framing in and we will make it a one-of-a-kind item.
Student and Decoration Discounts: We will work with students and decorators for quantity discounts. Please contact us for more information.
Commercial Clients: We offer substantial discounts for frame orders of multiple items. Please contact us with quantity to receive a custom quote.
I recently moved to a new home/new town. Luckily, I chose Rose at Across The Tracks Framing to give my artwork a new look. As I worked with Rose, I
discovered she has what I would call "genius" in choosing the perfect mat/frame for each and every piece. She is a talented designer and a delight to work with. I couldn't be happier with the results. It's thrilling to walk the house now and enjoy the art I love exhibit a beauty which had been missing.

Brilliant!! The owner is wonderful and very professional. Years of experience and creative with the framing they do. Rose did a shadowbox that is positively brilliant and a blessing. Can't beat them anywhere. Amanda, Snow Camp
I gave my husband Gary the picture you framed of our dog Charlie for his birthday and he loved it! He said "you are going to make me cry." This from a macho man that never cries. He absolutely loved it and said it was the best birthday present ever. He texted photos of it to all of his work buddies and other friends. I thought he would hang it in his office but he hung it in our living room. He says he wants to be able to look at it every day. You did a fantastic job and he will always treasure it. Thank you, R Manning, Burlington
Across The Tracks Framing has been doing my custom framing since 1997 when we moved to NC. Whether it has been that special sand dollar that I found walking at Wrightsville Beach, the restorations of Marilyn Monroe prints for our son or the beautiful framing of a Timberlake print, they have made every effort to make our treasures look beautiful in our home. They always make me feel welcome with a smile on their faces when I come to have a new precious memory or acquisition framed and are as excited as I am to see the finished product. S Brooks, Mebane
These guys are great. Everything I wanted and more! From the moment I walked in they were ready to make my dreams come true....and they did! I could not have asked for a better way to display my family memories.
I have been doing business with Across The Tracks Framing for six or seven years. They have an eye for bringing out the best of my photography with their custom framing skills. It makes my amateur photography look very professional.
